The soybean harvest season in Tarka local government area has brought smiles to the faces of farmers who invested in improved seed varieties this planting season. Early reports indicate that yields have surpassed expectations, with many farmers recording their best harvests in years.
The Tarka chapter of the Soybean Farmers Association attributed the success to a combination of favourable weather conditions, access to improved seeds provided by the state government, and training in modern agronomic practices. The association's chairman noted that soybean farming has become increasingly profitable, attracting young people back to agriculture.
With Benue State accounting for over 70 percent of Nigeria's soybean production, stakeholders are calling for more investment in processing infrastructure to ensure that farmers get maximum value from their produce. Plans for a soybean processing plant in Tarka are said to be at an advanced stage.
